Communications
MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones do not usually work at the cabin. They may or may not work at other locations on the mountain. If you are planning hiking or other activities away from the cabin, consider the additional time needed to get to a phone. Although cell phones do not usually work from the chalet, it is recommended that you bring one; there is usually reception in the parking lot. |
LAND LINES The closest telephone is located at Hollyburn Lodge (large red building) during operating hours only. There is a land line for cabin user's use on the porch of the Ranger Station which is at the head of the trail to the cabin just before the bridge. The next closest is at the Nordic Rentals area in the parking lot during operating hours only. Cypress employees carry radios and can assist in an emergency. |
SPOT SATELLITE & GEAR RENTALS
Did you know? West Coast Area offers SPOT satellite and gear rentals. The SPOT Satellite allows you to contact EMS services from the hill. For info on these items, visit the WCA Camping Site. IN AN EMERGENCY CALL 911

Evacuation & road closures
EVACUATION
If an evacuation of the Hollyburn Ridge area is necessary, the road to Cypress will be closed and West Vancouver authorities (usually police or fire department) will sweep the cabin area to ensure everyone is contacted. Obey instructions given by emergency personnel. |
ROAD CLOSURE
It is very rare that unsafe driving conditions will force the closure of Cypress Mountain Road. Remain at the Cabin until the road is open again, usually within 12 to 24 hours. If weather conditions warrant early departure, decide on a pick up time. Call girls’ emergency contact from telephone at Hollyburn Lodge, Cypress Nordic Rentals area, or via cell in parking lot, with instructions on when and where to pick up girls. Consider trail conditions before deciding to evacuate, as the girls may be safer in the cabin than hiking out. |
IF YOU BECOME LOST
Ensure someone knows where you are going and when you will return, prior to setting out. Do not follow creeks downhill as most North Shore creeks flow into steep ravines that end in waterfalls. Do not keep going once you realize that you are lost. Allow enough time (approximately 1 to 1 1⁄2 hours) to make a shelter before dark. |
