Driving & parking
PLANNING YOUR HIKE
Due to winter conditions and the distance from the parking lot to the Chalet (approximately 30 minute hike), all campers must be equipped with a backpack. It is useful to have a Hollyburn packing meeting before camp. You may wish to ask all the girls to bring their packed gear to a meeting ahead of time so you can ensure they have what they need: no more and no less. |
DRIVING CONDITIONS
Winter tires or chains: In winter, ensure that all drivers, including those dropping off or picking up girls, are equipped with good winter tires and/or chains. When it is snowing heavily you will be turned back at the bottom of Cypress Bowl Road if your tires are not adequate. Snow report: If you are not sure if Cypress is accessible, enquire by calling 604 419-SNOW (604-419-7669). |
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE TO CABIN
Arrival: No earlier than 2:00 p.m. Departure: No later than 2:00 p.m. PARKING Overnight parking: Take a shovel to remove snow accumulation behind cars. Obey parking signs; vehicles hampering snow removal are likely to be towed. |
Directions by road & foot
Turn right to the Nordic (cross country) Ski Area and park at the far end of the lot (PAST all buildings). Lock vehicles; remove any valuables. At the end of the parking lot you will see signs for the trail to Cypress / Hollyburn Lodge. This trail is called the 10 Minute Trail. When you get to the T junction at the end of this trail turn left and head uphill; you are on a forestry fire access road. |
At the end of this uphill trail you will find the iconic red Hollyburn Lodge; look for signs pointing to the trail on your right. This trail will bring you out to the cross country ski tracks next toward the log cabin that is West Vancouver Parks' Ranger Station.
DO NOT WALK ON SKI TRACKS! Follow the ski trail to the right. Just before the bridge, turn right at the bulletin board; a sign indicating Girl Guide Cabin is above the bulletin board. The Ranger Station is your landmark on the right. Follow this trail for about 5 minutes. Find our cabin on your right. The sign reads “GIRL GUIDES BURNABEE CHALET”. |
